Our facility is qualified to manufacture product to both commercial and military standards. We build to IPC Class 2 and 3 as well as MIL-PRF-55110 and MIL-P-50884 as specified by our customer. While the Galax facility manufactures standard product, we also have an excellent industry reputation for building more intricate product up to 24 layers. We also process higher end materials for today's high-speed technology requirements and assemble finished circuits using high-speed automated assembly equipment. We supply our customers with answers to complex printed circuit board application requirements.
Here is what you can expect in this role:
This individual will provide engineering support for Moog’s production of assembled electronic control circuits for mission-critical aerospace, medical, and defense applications.
The Associate Engineer will read complex technical drawings and schematics provided by our customers’ design teams, and using Moog’s proprietary software systems, will help create price quotations for manufacturing contracts, select appropriate electronic components, and specify process and test parameters required for manufacture and inspection.
This engineer will provide general process engineering support for electronics assembly and may also provide support for our PCB fabrication operations.
Responsibilities include management of assembly, soldering, inspection, and testing operations, failure analysis, tracking key metrics using SPC techniques, gauge R&R studies, specification of maintenance requirements, development of manufacturing instructions, yield and quality improvement activities, sample production, and related assignments.
This individual will also assist, support, and train engineering assistants, technicians, and operators in support of development of CAM and CAT files, equipment adjustment and improvement, and other activities.
Exercise of sound engineering judgment is required on details of work and in assisting with plans for new or revised products or processes, as well as an ability to develop and implement rule-based procedures to generate needed data files and instructions for production runs.
Proper use of all required PPE and ESD control devices and safe work practices are conditions of employment.
The products of Moog generally are unique for each customer and production workload will include support for a mix of recurring and newly released products for electronic assembly at our facility in Galax, Virginia.
Bachelor of Science in engineering degree, preferably in electrical, electronics, industrial, chemical, systems, manufacturing or mechanical engineering.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing or with one of the following: automated machine control systems, electrical circuit design or production, or electronic component design.
Familiarity with electronic schematics, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) practice, and automated machine control systems is essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills including excellent Microsoft Office skills are required.
Experience and/or training with PCB assembly or inspection equipment, robotic vision systems, CNC equipment, PLC or PC-based machine control systems are highly desirable, but not necessarily required.
Familiarity with G-code, and CAD/CAM/CAT packages is also highly desirable.
To fulfill the demands of supporting fast-paced production of high quality, mission critical products, the individual must show self‑starting instincts, an aptitude for creative synthesis, and the ability to utilize and quickly learn advanced problem solving skills and machine programming.
