As a Senior Research Investigator at IFF you will fulfill the strategic mission of the Delivery Systems group which is to drive consumer preference in our customer’s products. You will be part of a close-knit team conducting cutting edge research in the areas of encapsulation and delivery technology for flavors and fragrances supporting continued business growth at IFF.
The primary responsibility is to develop novel encapsulation technologies that protect functional ingredients until their desired release while meeting the technical requirements of a given application. Activities will include the development of scientific approaches, conducting original research, and the execution of technical work through the preparation, analysis, and performance evaluation of prototypes.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates that clearly demonstrate technical expertise in encapsulation and/or food science research. This position will require strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with a diverse group of colleagues throughout the organization and regularly present findings to a wide group of stakeholders at all levels.
You will spend your time… Conducting original research in developing novel and proprietary fragrance and flavor delivery systems utilizing both physical and chemical approaches to encapsulation Developing technical approaches and project plans under the general supervision of senior staff Managing a technical project, working with cross-functional teams and reporting results to upper management in a timely manner Conducting bench-level experiments, completing analytical and stability testing, and executing performance evaluations Interpreting data, accurately documenting experiments, and proposing next steps Identifying new materials and ingredients that can provide technical or competitive advantage Acting as a functional representative on project teams through experimental contribution and technical guidance
Requirements: Ph.D. in Food Science or related field Five + years of industrial experience in food technology areas Demonstrated ability to conduct original research and solve complex technical problems Proven track record of success in bringing new technologies to commercialization Strong time management skills demonstrating ability to simultaneously manage projects, conduct experiments, provide technical guidance, and contribute to additional projects Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with global and technically diverse teams
Preferred: Experience and knowledge in microencapsulation of flavors and/or fragrances Strong knowledge in material, interfacial and colloidal sciences Knowledgeable in analytical and sensory methods related to polymers and/or flavors/fragrances Research experience in microencapsulation, controlled release, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry, and/or colloid chemistry
