Position Summary:
Reports to the designated supervisor. Responsible for performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties for assigned area in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential Functions:
1. Perform a variety of clerical duties including data entry, generate and prepare reports, file, maintain records and other duties required in designated department.
2. Perform duties including typing correspondence, form letters, accountability forms, status reports and other required documents in a timely manner.
3. Receive telephone calls and visitors, tactfully referring to the proper individual.
4. If assigned to library:
a. Assist with planning and organizing of the library program for offenders. b. Adhere and enforce library policies and programs; select, acquire and organize library materials for convenient access.
c. Review request, and select books and other library materials according to mental state, educational background, and special needs of offenders.
d. Assemble book reviews for institution’s bulletins or newspapers, and circulate reviews among offenders.
e. Provide disabled or bedridden offenders with reading aids, such as prism glasses, page turners, book stands, talking books, etc.
5. If assigned to programs:
a. Prepare and distribute offender rosters to appropriate instructors and staff as needed.
b. Maintain records and files in hard copy and electronic form; maintain confidentiality of all records and correspondence.
c. Assist programs staff in obtaining, preparing and/or copying materials.
d. Assist in typing tests and other materials as prepared by instructors and counselor.
6. If assigned to records:
a. Maintain, update and file all records related to offenders in accordance with contractual requirements.
b. Enter all required data related to offender arrivals and departures into designated data bases.
c. Maintain and print inmate rosters.
d. Perform general clerical duties related to offender records.
7. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
8. Maintain accountability of offenders and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent or GED required. One (1) year related experience, including proficiency with various word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, and computer data entry experience preferred. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Pay 
$11.00 an Hour

Post Hire Requirements:
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by TDCJ.
