Meet the team:

The Map Engineering organization consists of multiple teams responsible for delivering the tools, data pipelines, services, and infrastructure used to create high definition maps that are critical to the safe operation of our autonomous vehicles. The group builds and maintains a number of full stack web applications used to create and manage maps from LiDAR, image, and other data. The group also builds and maintains the data pipelines and infrastructure used to extract sensor data from vehicle logs, prepare it for map generation, and deliver the final maps / map data to end consumers. 

We are looking for an outstanding Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the entire Map Engineering organization. In this role you will build and lead a team of Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, and Software Engineers focused on Full Stack web application development and Data Engineering. This is a high profile and high impact role for Argo AI that will provide significant opportunities to learn about and interact with our core Autonomy and Operations teams, as well as company leadership. 

What you’ll do: 

  • Manage the entire Map Engineering organization including the Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, and Software Engineers responsible for all Map Tool, Data Pipeline, and Map Server development
  • Attract and hire the best talent available (Full Stack Software Engineers and Data Engineers)
  • Work with the senior leadership of Autonomy, Perception, and Operations teams to understand their short & long term needs and lead the delivery of mapping solutions to address them
  • Leverage deep technical and managerial expertise to collaborate with teams across Argo to define and build state of the art Mapping architectures, systems, and processes
  • Become the organizational expert / go to person for all things Mapping at Argo, and be recognized as a domain expert both inside and outside of the company
  • What you'll need to succeed:

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field
  • 15+ years of total experience with 5+ years managing large Software / Data Engineering organizations, including substantial experience managing other Engineering Managers and Tech Leads
  • Significant experience and domain knowledge leading Software and Data Engineers in Mapping, ML, or Data Platform organizations
  • Experience leading Software Engineering teams responsible for full stack development, preferably with significant exposure to TypeScript, WebGL, React, Java, Python, and cloud services (AWS or GCP)
  • Experience leading Data Engineering teams building data pipelines and platforms with tools like Postgres / MySQL, Airflow
  • Strong team player that can collaborate and communicate effectively within and between teams at all levels of the organization, up to and including the President & CEO of the company
  • Outstanding track record of delivering outsized value to clients and managing customer / leadership expectations
  • Experience building highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable data systems
  • Prior experience working as a lead or senior level software engineer 
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and organizational skills
