Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of steam boilers, air compressors, chillers, cooling water systems, cooling towers, controls, and all other auxiliary and accessory equipment such as safety valves, pressure gauges, pumps, motors, and fans necessary to the utility plant in the CUP
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
2 years of experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler
3+ years of experience operating distributed utility systems and equipment in an industrial environment
Ability to read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and control schematics
Detailed fundamental and working knowledge of facilities systems and infrastructure including electrical distribution, steam and condensate, compressed air, various cooling water systems, chillers and chilled water, and cooling towers including auxiliary and accessory equipment such as safety valves, pressure gauges, pumps, motors, etc.
Ability to work well alone and in a team
Boiler operator’s license highly preferred
Experience in building maintenance to include operating, maintaining, and performing corrective and preventive maintenance in a variety of building trades areas, with at least one year of experience operating high-pressure steam boilers
Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact within a team environment
Operate and maintain stationary equipment such as steam boilers, air compressors, chillers, cooling water systems, and cooling towers
Record data (temperature, pressure, water levels, etc.), reading dials and gauges
Adjust manual controls or overrides automatic controls to start or shut down equipment
Conduct safety tests and periodically inspect, repair, adjust, and lubricate equipment
Perform preventative maintenance of equipment, as required, using hand and power tools
Record and report actions taken during the workday
Document all work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Identify and correct unsafe working conditions with management oversight
Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures
Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments
Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work
Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, manuals, and blueprints
Maintains high standards for work areas and appearance
Ability to present self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential
Good attention to detail
Knowledge of and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work
Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
Able to receive constructive feedback and adapt to change within a dynamic environment, viewing obstacles as opportunities
Demonstrate the application of structured problem-solving methods and tools
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Work effectively as an individual with minimal direction, and as part of a larger team
