The Department of Health of the City of Stamford is recruiting for the position of Assistant Director of Health and Director of Nursing and Dental Services.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Director of Health, assists with the overall management of the Health Department including but not limited to planning, organizing, directing all activities of the Health Department’s Nursing Division, including school health services and community nursing. This is an administrative position requiring oversight of registered nurses, advanced practical nurses, dental hygienists, and office support staff. Monitors and evaluates public health programs to assist Director of Health with the financial and operational planning for the Department. Functions as the Director of Health when required.


•Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing AND Masters of Public Health degree AND

•Three (3) years of administrative experience with progressive responsibility in a public health or combined nursing agency. A Master’s Degree shall be required and may not be substituted for.

•Possession of a valid State of Connecticut license as a Registered Nurse. Continued appointment will be contingent upon maintaining a valid unrestricted State of Connecticut license to practice nursing

•The incumbent in this role will be required to travel offsite frequently. A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Note: Teaching experience in an accredited nursing school may substitute for one (1) year of administrative experience.

Certification as a School Nurse by the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) preferred but not required.
